Possibility of treating chronic migraine with magnetic stimulation was tried on 100 patients by U. Misra and his Indian team (2013) in their randomized, placebo-controlled study.
Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation has proved very efficient in the treatment of depression while also revealing potential analgesic effects on headache
Patients with recurrent chronic migraine, but not depression, therefore underwent three applications of 10 Hz transcranial magnetic stimulation during one week.
Half of them, however, was not exposed to the effects of the magnetic field as it served as a control group to evaluate efficacy of this treatment after one month.
After the week of this treatment, the active group experienced absolute improvement while the control group did not show any. The results of this study clearly confirmed that magnetic stimulation significantly reduces reoccurrence of migraines and also their intensity and duration.
